There is fluidity and expediency to Sue’s work engendering a feeling of calm control, unconstrained by defined edges and prescribed delineated lines. The images emerge from the canvas, as if forming in front of the viewer’s eyes with an emotional intensity. This fluid dynamism reflects the creative process, yet it is underpinned by great technical details reflecting Sue’s training as a graphic artists, before becoming an painter.
Her subject matter is diverse; from historical references, to found objects and incorporates elements of figuration and abstraction, balancing gesture with narrative.
Sue graduated in 2008 from Wimbledon College of Art with a BA Hons Fine Art: Painting (First Class). In 2013 she won the Jerwood Painting Fellowship and in 2007 the Prunella Clough Scholarship at Wimbledon School of Art. She has exhibited extensively since 2010.
